Sundays are for adventuring

This past Sunday I was fortunate enough to take a trip out to Pukerua Bay with the tramping club. It a 20 minute car ride north of wellington. Although it is still north, you are able to get a fantastic view of the South Island and Mana Island. The day started off quite wet, (with a slight bit of hail) while we waited for everyone to meet at the train station, figuring that we would get rained out we decided to give it a try anyway. When we reached Pukerua Bay the weather was perfect.

When everyone arrived we started our tramp along the bay to the site that we would be rock climbing.

There were a lot of interesting rocks, wood carvings, and driftwood structures all along the bay

The place that we rocked climbed had a lot of different degrees of difficulty, which is great because we had a large range of experienced climbers with us. You could climb anything from a 13 to a 21. (the higher the number the more difficult the course is, a beginner starts with anything lower than a 15).

We climbed for a good portion of the day, taking breaks to tramp and explore the surrounding bay area

New Zealand is a land full of adventure, and everyday outside is an amazing blessing. Ive never been rock climbing outside of a gym before and I loved trying it in this beautiful space.

Climbing was fun and fulfilling and although I wasn’t very good at it for my first time, I’m proud of what I did and hope I can keep trying and get better. Rock climbing definitely a sport I can get into.
